The New Year's Eve announcement that Rio Grande Pacific, the company chosen to develop and operate the proposed Uinta Basin Railway (UBR), has leased the Tennessee Pass rail line from Union Pacific adds a new dimension to the UBR project. The Tennessee Pass rail line has been touted as a "shortcut" for Uinta Basin crude oil to be transported to Gulf Coast refineries; therefore, communities, public lands, Gold Medal fisheries and Browns Canyon National Monument in Colorado could all be impacted by the development of the UBR.Given the size and complexity of the project and the amount of information in the DEIS and supporting documents, Friends of Browns Canyon requests that the comment period be extended by 60 days.
